Et il y resta, et ne mangea point de pain ni ne but d'eau, pleurant sur les grandes iniquités de la multitude.
And remained there, and did eat no meat nor drink water, mourning for the great iniquities of the multitude.
Et on fit une proclamation dans toute la Judée et à Jérusalem à tous ceux qui étaient de la captivité, afin qu'ils s'assemblassent à Jérusalem ;
And there was a proclamation in all Jewry and Jerusalem to all them that were of the captivity, that they should be gathered together at Jerusalem:
Et que quiconque ne s'y trouverait pas dans deux ou trois jours, selon ce que les anciens qui gouvernaient auraient ordonné, son bétail serait saisi pour l'usage du temple, et lui-même chassé d'entre ceux de la captivité.
And that whosoever met not there within two or three days according as the elders that bare rule appointed, their cattle should be seized to the use of the temple, and himself cast out from them that were of the captivity.
Et en trois jours, tous ceux de la tribu de Juda et de Benjamin s'assemblèrent à Jérusalem, le vingtième jour du neuvième mois.
And in three days were all they of the tribe of Judah and Benjamin gathered together at Jerusalem the twentieth day of the ninth month.
Et toute la multitude se tenait assise, tremblante, sur la place du temple, à cause du mauvais temps qu'il faisait.
And all the multitude sat trembling in the broad court of the temple because of the present foul weather.
Alors Esdras se leva et leur dit : Vous avez transgressé la loi en épousant des femmes étrangères, pour accroître ainsi les péchés d'Israël.
So Esdras arose up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed the law in marrying strange wives, thereby to increase the sins of Israel.
Et maintenant, en confessant, rendez gloire au Seigneur Dieu de nos pères,
And now by confessing give glory unto the Lord God of our fathers,
Et faites sa volonté, et séparez-vous des païens du pays et des femmes étrangères.
And do his will, and separate yourselves from the heathen of the land, and from the strange women.
Alors toute la multitude s'écria et dit d'une voix forte : Comme tu l'as dit, ainsi ferons-nous.
Then cried the whole multitude, and said with a loud voice, Like as thou hast spoken, so will we do.
Mais comme le peuple est nombreux, et qu'il fait mauvais temps, de sorte que nous ne pouvons rester dehors, et que ce n'est pas l'œuvre d'un jour ou deux, vu que notre péché en ces choses s'est largement répandu ;
But forasmuch as the people are many, and it is foul weather, so that we cannot stand without, and this is not a work of a day or two, seeing our sin in these things is spread far:
Que les chefs de la multitude demeurent donc, et que tous ceux de nos habitations qui ont des femmes étrangères viennent au temps marqué,
Therefore let the rulers of the multitude stay, and let all them of our habitations that have strange wives come at the time appointed,
Et avec eux les chefs et les juges de chaque lieu, jusqu'à ce que nous détournions de nous la colère du Seigneur pour cette affaire.
And with them the rulers and judges of every place, till we turn away the wrath of the Lord from us for this matter.
Alors Jonathan fils d'Azaël et Ézéchias fils de Théocanus prirent cette affaire sur eux ; et Mosollam, Lévis et Sabbathéus les aidèrent.
Then Jonathan the son of Azael and Ezechias the son of Theocanus accordingly took this matter upon them: and Mosollam and Levis and Sabbatheus helped them.
Et ceux qui étaient de la captivité firent selon toutes ces choses.
And they that were of the captivity did according to all these things.
Et Esdras le prêtre choisit les principaux hommes de leurs familles, tous par leur nom ; et le premier jour du dixième mois, ils s'assirent ensemble pour examiner l'affaire.
And Esdras the priest chose unto him the principal men of their families, all by name: and in the first day of the tenth month they sat together to examine the matter.
Ainsi la cause de ceux qui avaient des femmes étrangères fut terminée le premier jour du premier mois.
So their cause that held strange wives was brought to an end in the first day of the first month.
Et parmi les prêtres qui s'étaient assemblés et qui avaient des femmes étrangères, il s'en trouva :
And of the priests that were come together, and had strange wives, there were found:
Des fils de Jésu fils de Josédec, et de ses frères : Matthélas et Éléazar, et Joribus et Joadanus.
Of the sons of Jesus the son of Josedec, and his brethren; Matthelas and Eleazar, and Joribus and Joadanus.
Et ils donnèrent leur main pour renvoyer leurs femmes, et pour offrir des béliers en expiation de leurs fautes.
And they gave their hands to put away their wives and to offer rams to make reconcilement for their errors.
Et des fils d'Emmer : Ananias, et Zabdeus, et Éanès, et Saméius, et Hiéréel, et Azarias.
And of the sons of Emmer; Ananias, and Zabdeus, and Eanes, and Sameius, and Hiereel, and Azarias.
Et des fils de Phaisur : Élionas, Massias Israël, et Nathanaël, et Ocidelus et Talsas.
And of the sons of Phaisur; Elionas, Massias Israel, and Nathanael, and Ocidelus and Talsas.
Et des Lévites : Jozabad, et Sémis, et Colius, qui était appelé Calitas, et Pathéus, et Judas, et Jonas.
And of the Levites; Jozabad, and Semis, and Colius, who was called Calitas, and Patheus, and Judas, and Jonas.
Des chantres sacrés : Éléazurus, Bacchurus.
Of the holy singers; Eleazurus, Bacchurus.
Des portiers : Sallumus et Tolbanès.
Of the porters; Sallumus, and Tolbanes.
De ceux d'Israël, des fils de Phoros : Hiermas, et Eddias, et Melchias, et Maélus, et Éléazar, et Asibias, et Baanias.
Of them of Israel, of the sons of Phoros; Hiermas, and Eddias, and Melchias, and Maelus, and Eleazar, and Asibias, and Baanias.
Des fils d'Éla : Matthanias, Zacharie, et Hiériélus, et Hiérémoth, et Aédias.
Of the sons of Ela; Matthanias, Zacharias, and Hierielus, and Hieremoth, and Aedias.
Et des fils de Zamoth : Éliadas, Élisimus, Othonias, Jarimoth, et Sabatus, et Sardéus.
And of the sons of Zamoth; Eliadas, Elisimus, Othonias, Jarimoth, and Sabatus, and Sardeus.

Of the sons of Babai; Johannes, and Ananias and Josabad, and Amatheis.

And of the sons of Annas; Elionas and Aseas, and Melchias, and Sabbeus, and Simon Chosameus.

And of the sons of Maani; Jeremias, Momdis, Omaerus, Juel, Mabdai, and Pelias, and Anos, Carabasion, and Enasibus, and Mamnitanaimus, Eliasis, Bannus, Eliali, Samis, Selemias, Nathanias: and of the sons of Ozora; Sesis, Esril, Azaelus, Samatus, Zambis, Josephus.
Et des fils d'Ethma : Mazitias, Zabadaias, Édes, Juel, Banaias.
And of the sons of Ethma; Mazitias, Zabadaias, Edes, Juel, Banaias.
Tous ceux-là avaient pris des femmes étrangères, et ils les renvoyèrent avec leurs enfants.
All these had taken strange wives, and they put them away with their children.
Et les prêtres et les Lévites, et ceux qui étaient d'Israël, habitèrent à Jérusalem et dans le pays, le premier jour du septième mois ; ainsi les enfants d'Israël furent dans leurs habitations.
And the priests and Levites, and they that were of Israel, dwelt in Jerusalem, and in the country, in the first day of the seventh month: so the children of Israel were in their habitations.
Et toute la multitude s'assembla d'un commun accord sur la place du parvis sacré, vers l'orient ;
And the whole multitude came together with one accord into the broad place of the holy porch toward the east:
Et ils dirent à Esdras, le prêtre et lecteur, d'apporter la loi de Moïse, qui avait été donnée par le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël.
And they spake unto Esdras the priest and reader, that he would bring the law of Moses, that was given of the Lord God of Israel.
Ainsi Esdras, le souverain prêtre, apporta la loi devant toute la multitude, hommes et femmes, et devant tous les prêtres, pour entendre la loi, le premier jour du septième mois.
So Esdras the chief priest brought the law unto the whole multitude from man to woman, and to all the priests, to hear law in the first day of the seventh month.
Et il lut sur la place devant le parvis sacré, depuis le matin jusqu'à midi, devant les hommes et les femmes ; et la multitude prêta attention à la loi.
And he read in the broad court before the holy porch from morning unto midday, before both men and women; and the multitude gave heed unto the law.
Et Esdras, le prêtre et lecteur de la loi, se tint debout sur une tribune de bois, qui avait été faite à cet effet.
And Esdras the priest and reader of the law stood up upon a pulpit of wood, which was made for that purpose.
Et près de lui se tenaient Mattathias, Sammus, Ananias, Azarias, Urias, Ézécias, Balasamus, à sa droite ;
And there stood up by him Mattathias, Sammus, Ananias, Azarias, Urias, Ezecias, Balasamus, upon the right hand:
Et à sa gauche se tenaient Phaldaïus, Misaël, Melchias, Lothasubus et Nabarias.
And upon his left hand stood Phaldaius, Misael, Melchias, Lothasubus, and Nabarias.
Alors Esdras prit le livre de la loi devant la multitude, car il siégeait honorablement à la première place à la vue de tous.
Then took Esdras the book of the law before the multitude: for he sat honourably in the first place in the sight of them all.
Et quand il ouvrit la loi, ils se tinrent tous debout. Alors Esdras bénit le Seigneur Dieu Très-Haut, le Dieu des armées, le Tout-Puissant.
And when he opened the law, they stood all straight up. So Esdras blessed the Lord God most High, the God of hosts, Almighty.
Et tout le peuple répondit : Amen ; et levant les mains, ils se prosternèrent contre terre et adorèrent le Seigneur.
And all the people answered, Amen; and lifting up their hands they fell to the ground, and worshipped the Lord.
Aussi Jésu, Anus, Sarabias, Adinus, Jacubus, Sabatéas, Autéas, Maianéas et Calitas, Asrias, et Joazabdus, et Ananias, Biatas, les Lévites, enseignèrent la loi du Seigneur, en la leur faisant comprendre.
Also Jesus, Anus, Sarabias, Adinus, Jacubus, Sabateas, Auteas, Maianeas, and Calitas, Asrias, and Joazabdus, and Ananias, Biatas, the Levites, taught the law of the Lord, making them withal to understand it.
Alors Attharate parla à Esdras, le souverain prêtre et lecteur, et aux Lévites qui enseignaient la multitude, et à tous, disant :
Then spake Attharates unto Esdras the chief priest. and reader, and to the Levites that taught the multitude, even to all, saying,
Ce jour est saint pour le Seigneur ; (car ils pleuraient tous en entendant la loi :)
This day is holy unto the Lord; (for they all wept when they heard the law:)
Allez donc, mangez des viandes grasses, buvez des boissons douces, et envoyez-en des portions à ceux qui n'ont rien ;
Go then, and eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send part to them that have nothing;
Car ce jour est saint pour le Seigneur ; et ne soyez point tristes, car le Seigneur vous honorera.
For this day is holy unto the Lord: and be not sorrowful; for the Lord will bring you to honour.
Ainsi les Lévites publièrent toutes ces choses au peuple, disant : Ce jour est saint pour le Seigneur ; ne soyez point tristes.
So the Levites published all things to the people, saying, This day is holy to the Lord; be not sorrowful.
Alors ils s'en allèrent tous pour manger et boire, et se réjouir, et pour donner des portions à ceux qui n'avaient rien, et pour faire de grandes réjouissances ;
Then went they their way, every one to eat and drink, and make merry, and to give part to them that had nothing, and to make great cheer;
Parce qu'ils avaient compris les paroles qui leur avaient été enseignées, et pour lesquelles ils avaient été assemblés.
Because they understood the words wherein they were instructed, and for the which they had been assembled.
