Or, la deuxième année du règne de Darius, Aggée et Zacharie, fils d'Addo, les prophètes, prophétisèrent aux Juifs en Judée et à Jérusalem au nom du Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, qui était sur eux.
Now in the second year of the reign of Darius, Aggeus and Zacharias the son of Addo, the prophets, prophesied unto the Jews in Jewry and Jerusalem in the name of the Lord God of Israel, which was upon them.
Alors se levèrent Zorobabel, fils de Salathiel, et Jésus, fils de Josédec, et ils commencèrent à bâtir la maison du Seigneur à Jérusalem, les prophètes du Seigneur étant avec eux et les aidant.
Then stood up Zorobabel the son of Salatiel, and Jesus the son of Josedec, and began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, the prophets of the Lord being with them, and helping them.
En ce même temps, Sisinnes, gouverneur de Syrie et de Phénicie, vint à eux avec Sathrabuzanes et ses compagnons, et leur dit :
At the same time came unto them Sisinnes the governor of Syria and Phenice, with Sathrabuzanes and his companions, and said unto them,
Par l'ordre de qui bâtissez-vous cette maison et ce toit, et accomplissez-vous toutes les autres choses ? et qui sont les ouvriers qui accomplissent ces choses ?
By whose appointment do ye build this house and this roof, and perform all the other things? and who are the workmen that perform these things?
Néanmoins, les anciens des Juifs obtinrent faveur, parce que le Seigneur avait visité la captivité ;
Nevertheless the elders of the Jews obtained favour, because the Lord had visited the captivity;
Et ils ne furent point empêchés de bâtir, jusqu'à ce qu'avis fût donné à Darius les concernant, et qu'une réponse fût reçue.
And they were not hindered from building, until such time as signification was given unto Darius concerning them, and an answer received.
Copie des lettres que Sisinnes, gouverneur de Syrie et de Phénicie, et Sathrabuzanes, avec leurs compagnons, chefs en Syrie et en Phénicie, écrivirent et envoyèrent à Darius : Au roi Darius, salut :
The copy of the letters which Sisinnes, governor of Syria and Phenice, and Sathrabuzanes, with their companions, rulers in Syria and Phenice, wrote and sent unto Darius; To king Darius, greeting:
Que toutes choses soient connues de notre seigneur le roi : étant venus dans le pays de Judée, et étant entrés dans la ville de Jérusalem, nous avons trouvé dans la ville de Jérusalem les anciens des Juifs qui étaient de la captivité
Let all things be known unto our lord the king, that being come into the country of Judea, and entered into the city of Jerusalem we found in the city of Jerusalem the ancients of the Jews that were of the captivity
Bâtissant une maison au Seigneur, grande et neuve, de pierres de taille et coûteuses, et le bois déjà posé sur les murs.
Building an house unto the Lord, great and new, of hewn and costly stones, and the timber already laid upon the walls.
Et ces travaux sont faits avec une grande célérité, et l'ouvrage prospère entre leurs mains, et il est fait avec toute gloire et diligence.
And those works are done with great speed, and the work goeth on prosperously in their hands, and with all glory and diligence is it made.
Alors nous avons interrogé ces anciens, disant : Par quel commandement bâtissez-vous cette maison, et posez-vous les fondements de ces ouvrages ?
Then asked we these elders, saying, By whose commandment build ye this house, and lay the foundations of these works?
C'est pourquoi, afin que nous puissions t'en donner connaissance par écrit, nous leur avons demandé qui étaient les principaux auteurs, et nous avons exigé d'eux les noms par écrit de leurs principaux hommes.
Therefore to the intent that we might give knowledge unto thee by writing, we demanded of them who were the chief doers, and we required of them the names in writing of their principal men.
Ainsi ils nous donnèrent cette réponse : Nous sommes les serviteurs du Seigneur qui a fait le ciel et la terre.
So they gave us this answer, We are the servants of the Lord which made heaven and earth.
Et quant à cette maison, elle fut bâtie il y a de nombreuses années par un roi d'Israël grand et fort, et elle fut achevée.
And as for this house, it was builded many years ago by a king of Israel great and strong, and was finished.
Mais quand nos pères provoquèrent Dieu à la colère, et péchèrent contre le Seigneur d'Israël qui est au ciel, il les livra au pouvoir de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, des Chaldéens ;
But when our fathers provoked God unto wrath, and sinned against the Lord of Israel which is in heaven, he gave them over into the power of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, of the Chaldees;
Lequel abattit la maison, et la brûla, et emmena le peuple captif à Babylone.
Who pulled down the house, and burned it, and carried away the people captives unto Babylon.
Mais la première année que le roi Cyrus régna sur le pays de Babylone, le roi Cyrus écrivit de rebâtir cette maison.
But in the first year that king Cyrus reigned over the country of Babylon, Cyrus the king wrote to build up this house.
Et les vases sacrés d'or et d'argent, que Nabuchodonosor avait emportés de la maison à Jérusalem et avait placés dans son propre temple, le roi Cyrus les fit ressortir du temple de Babylone, et ils furent remis à Zorobabel et à Sanabassarus le chef,
And the holy vessels of gold and of silver, that Nabuchodonosor had carried away out of the house at Jerusalem, and had set them in his own temple those Cyrus the king brought forth again out of the temple at Babylon, and they were delivered to Zorobabel and to Sanabassarus the ruler,
Avec le commandement qu'il emportât ces mêmes vases, et qu'il les mît dans le temple à Jérusalem ; et que le temple du Seigneur fût bâti en son lieu.
With commandment that he should carry away the same vessels, and put them in the temple at Jerusalem; and that the temple of the Lord should be built in his place.
Alors ce même Sanabassarus, étant venu ici, posa les fondements de la maison du Seigneur à Jérusalem ; et depuis ce temps jusqu'à présent, elle est encore en construction, et n'est pas encore entièrement achevée.
Then the same Sanabassarus, being come hither, laid the foundations of the house of the Lord at Jerusalem; and from that time to this being still a building, it is not yet fully ended.
Maintenant donc, s'il semble bon au roi, que l'on fasse des recherches parmi les registres du roi Cyrus :
Now therefore, if it seem good unto the king, let search be made among the records of king Cyrus:
Et s'il est trouvé que la construction de la maison du Seigneur à Jérusalem a été faite avec le consentement du roi Cyrus, et si notre seigneur le roi est de cet avis, qu'il nous en donne avis.
And if it be found that the building of the house of the Lord at Jerusalem hath been done with the consent of king Cyrus, and if our lord the king be so minded, let him signify unto us thereof.
Alors le roi Darius commanda de chercher parmi les registres à Babylone : et ainsi à Ecbatane, le palais qui est dans le pays de Médie, il fut trouvé un rouleau où ces choses étaient consignées.
Then commanded king Darius to seek among the records at Babylon: and so at Ecbatane the palace, which is in the country of Media, there was found a roll wherein these things were recorded.
La première année du règne de Cyrus, le roi Cyrus commanda que la maison du Seigneur à Jérusalem fût rebâtie, là où l'on offre des sacrifices avec un feu continuel :
In the first year of the reign of Cyrus king Cyrus commanded that the house of the Lord at Jerusalem should be built again, where they do sacrifice with continual fire:
Dont la hauteur sera de soixante coudées et la largeur de soixante coudées, avec trois rangées de pierres de taille, et une rangée de bois neuf de ce pays ; et les dépenses en seront payées par la maison du roi Cyrus :
Whose height shall be sixty cubits and the breadth sixty cubits, with three rows of hewn stones, and one row of new wood of that country; and the expences thereof to be given out of the house of king Cyrus:
Et que les vases sacrés de la maison du Seigneur, tant d'or que d'argent, que Nabuchodonosor a pris de la maison à Jérusalem et a apportés à Babylone, soient restitués à la maison à Jérusalem, et soient mis à la place où ils étaient auparavant.
And that the holy vessels of the house of the Lord, both of gold and silver, that Nabuchodonosor took out of the house at Jerusalem, and brought to Babylon, should be restored to the house at Jerusalem, and be set in the place where they were before.
Et il commanda aussi que Sisinnes, gouverneur de Syrie et de Phénicie, et Sathrabuzanes, et leurs compagnons, et ceux qui étaient établis chefs en Syrie et en Phénicie, prissent garde de ne pas se mêler de ce lieu, mais qu'ils laissassent Zorobabel, le serviteur du Seigneur et gouverneur de Judée, et les anciens des Juifs, bâtir la maison du Seigneur en ce lieu.
And also he commanded that Sisinnes the governor of Syria and Phenice, and Sathrabuzanes, and their companions, and those which were appointed rulers in Syria and Phenice, should be careful not to meddle with the place, but suffer Zorobabel, the servant of the Lord, and governor of Judea, and the elders of the Jews, to build the house of the Lord in that place.
J'ai aussi commandé de la faire rebâtir entièrement ; et qu'ils veillent diligemment à aider ceux qui sont de la captivité des Juifs, jusqu'à ce que la maison du Seigneur soit achevée :
I have commanded also to have it built up whole again; and that they look diligently to help those that be of the captivity of the Jews, till the house of the Lord be finished:
Et que sur le tribut de la Célésyrie et de la Phénicie, une portion soit soigneusement donnée à ces hommes pour les sacrifices du Seigneur, c'est-à-dire à Zorobabel le gouverneur, pour des taureaux, des béliers et des agneaux ;
And out of the tribute of Celosyria and Phenice a portion carefully to be given these men for the sacrifices of the Lord, that is, to Zorobabel the governor, for bullocks, and rams, and lambs;
Et aussi du blé, du sel, du vin et de l'huile, et cela continuellement chaque année sans plus de question, selon que les prêtres qui sont à Jérusalem indiqueront ce qui doit être dépensé chaque jour :
And also corn, salt, wine, and oil, and that continually every year without further question, according as the priests that be in Jerusalem shall signify to be daily spent:
Afin que des offrandes soient faites au Dieu très-haut pour le roi et pour ses enfants, et qu'ils prient pour leur vie.
That offerings may be made to the most high God for the king and for his children, and that they may pray for their lives.
Et il commanda que quiconque transgresserait, ou même ferait peu de cas de toute chose dite ou écrite ci-dessus, une poutre fût prise de sa propre maison, et qu'il y fût pendu, et que tous ses biens fussent saisis pour le roi.
And he commanded that whosoever should transgress, yea, or make light of any thing afore spoken or written, out of his own house should a tree be taken, and he thereon be hanged, and all his goods seized for the king.
Que le Seigneur donc, dont le nom est là invoqué, détruise entièrement tout roi et toute nation qui étendra sa main pour empêcher ou endommager cette maison du Seigneur à Jérusalem.
The Lord therefore, whose name is there called upon, utterly destroy every king and nation, that stretcheth out his hand to hinder or endamage that house of the Lord in Jerusalem.
Moi, Darius le roi, j'ai ordonné que selon ces choses il soit fait avec diligence.
I Darius the king have ordained that according unto these things it be done with diligence.
